Severin Moore

Art portfolio website for Severin Moore

About the Project

Objective

Severin wanted a minimalistic portfolio website to show his paintings and sculptures. Accordingly, the background is flat white like the walls of a gallery. The header, footer and other controls are designed to be simple and not distracting. The emphasis for this site is on the art without any fancy web animations or motion effects.

Highlights

The art is arranged by medium and year. There is a drop down menu for each medium in the header. Hover over the artwork and it will lighten in color to signal the link to a large version. Each gallery has the option for a “Slide Show” that displays the piece and description with controls to move forwards and backwards. The only place we deviated from the gallery-like setting is the contact page. It has a muted painting detail for the background. It seemed like a good place to have a little fun.

Tech

This website is scratch built in HTML, CSS, JavaScript and PHP. The layout employs Flexbox to be fully responsive to various screen sizes. It was a great educational experience to do the research and build this site. For the next update, however, I will probably convert it to WordPress. I will be able to achieve the same look and functionality, but also make it possible for Severin to update the site with new art. Currently, it requires changes/additions in the code by a developer.
